The Cardiovascular Dynamics Group is focused on studying the cardiovascular system and its interaction with other systems within the body. Projects include understanding the vasculature remodel in patients with pulmonary hypertension, if and why patients with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia exhibit an attenuated baroreflex response, and how the inflammatory response associated with sepsis impacts cardiovascular dynamics. Specific emphasis is to develop new tools integrating modeling and data analysis to better interpret and understand diseases and illnesses. We do so by building mathematical models derived from analysis of physiological principles ranging from cells to organs. To fit models to data and assess what model is the most appropriate, we integrate all models in a statistical framework using both frequentist and Bayesian methodology.
